About Bristol Fire Rescue
Message from Fire Chief Bob Barnes
The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department (BTFD) is a progressive, professional, highly-trained group of 67 dedicated employees, serving a community of over 26,000 residents, and providing emergency services to an area of about 33 square miles. Bristol Fire Rescue is a strategic partner with Bristol Motor Speedway, the "World’s Fastest Half Mile", and together we work diligently to insure event attendees are provided the highest level of public safety and emergency services. The citizens and visitors of Bristol are served by six Advance Life Support Ambulances, along with two front-line Pumpers, one 100’ aerial ladder/pumper combination, one 75’ aerial/pumper combination, one 60’ aerial/pumper combination, and one 55’ aerial/pumper combination. In 2017, the BTFD became only the fifth fire department in the State of Tennessee to earn accreditation status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). Less than 2% of the country’s fire departments have successfully met the rigid qualifications and completed all components of the CFAI accrediting process. Our resources are staged for all-hazards emergency responses at five strategically located fire stations. Bristol is fortunate to have 26 firefighters trained to the level of Paramedic, and to have one hundred per cent of the department’s firefighters certified to the Emergency Medical Technician level. Bristol’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating is Class 3, and fire staff continually monitors our department's compliance with ISO grading components. Our department places its highest priority on public education and proactively engages in fire prevention and safety education. We wholeheartedly embrace the U.S. Fire Administration’s latest safety initiative, “Fire Is Everyone’s Fight”, and received permission to include that initiative’s logo as an integral part of the official BTFD logo. We will actively promote this safety campaign as we strive to enhance the quality public safety enjoyed by our residents. Bristol Fire Rescue proudly serves the citizens of Bristol, responds to over 5,000 calls per year; and, the department enjoys the opportunities and challenges of representing the City of Bristol, Bristol's visitors, and the fire service profession. Finally, I extend a warm invitation to anyone wishing to visit our department and learn firsthand about our equipment, our dedication, our training, and our commitment to service.
