The Department of Public Venue is responsible for planning, coordination and administering all activities of the department at the Downtown Center, State Street Farmer's Market and Viking Hall Civic Center; concert events at Anderson Park, Whitetop Creek Park, Steele Creek Park and other The departmental staff is responsible developing partnerships with the private sector for sponsorship of activities that may serve as incubators for an event to be grown by the community, thus creating new economic impact and revitalization for the downtown area. Events include the Pumpkin Palooza, the Full Moon Jam Concert Series, Bluegrass Nights, and Hot Summer Nights series. The department worked with the community in the creating a highly successful festival, Rhythm and Roots Reunion. The three day event has grown into a tremendous independent festival drawing thousands to the city each year. Concessions at all parks are operated by the department. The department is responsible for much of the city's public information presented on the city website and media press releases on city events.
