The Police Department SWAT team is fully trained and equipped to serve high risk warrants, respond to incidents of barricaded subjects and to tackle most any other situation that arises in the city.

The team has 10 sworn officers who serve as entry-team members and 2 additional members designated as marksmen observers.  The team is also served by 3 officers trained as critical incident negotiators.

The SWAT team trains a minimum of 8 hours per month and team members are required to have excellent firearms skills and to pass a rigorous physical abilities assessment.

In The Field
Over the past several years the team has responded to numerous incidents within the City of Bristol and also to incidents in Sullivan County and Kingsport under mutual aid requests.
