The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department (BTFD) is a progressive, professional, highly-trained group of 67 full time and 12 part time dedicated employees, serving a community of over 27,000 residents, and providing emergency services to an area of about 32 square miles. Our resources are staged for all-hazards emergency responses at five strategically located stations responding to over 5,000 calls per year. Our Department also provides the emergency medical services, ambulance transport, tactical rescue, and hazardous materials response for the city as well.
In 2017, the BTFD became only the fifth fire department in the State of Tennessee to earn accreditation status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). Less than 2% of the country's fire departments have successfully met the rigid qualifications and completed all components of the CFAI accrediting process. Bristol's Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating is Class 3, and fire staff continually monitors our department's compliance with ISO grading components.
Our department places a high priority on public education and proactively engages with the community in fire prevention and safety education.
Bristol Fire Department proudly serves the citizens of Bristol, and, enjoys the opportunities and challenges of representing the City, its visitors, and the fire service profession. Finally, I extend a warm invitation to anyone wishing to visit our department and learn firsthand about our equipment, our dedication, our training, and our commitment to service.
