[ARCHIVED] 02/15/2017 Public Works equipment operator recognized as Employee of the Year

Each year, the City of Bristol, Tennessee recognizes and celebrates examples of excellence in providing results and outstanding customer service through the Bristol First P.R.I.D.E. in Public Service awards program. At a reception held to honor the 2016 recipients of the award, Jacob Jenkins of the Bristol, Tennessee Public Works Department was honored by Mayor Chad Keen as the Employee of the Year. He was nominated to receive the Bristol First recognition by a citizen who witnessed Mr. Jenkin’s spirit of service at work.

Jacob was part of a City crew working on downtown lights near the intersection of State Street and Volunteer Parkway, which required that a section of sidewalk be blocked to pedestrian traffic. A visually impaired gentleman approached the work area but was unable to pass due to the restricted path. Mr. Jenkins, noticing the man’s difficulty in proceeding toward his destination, took his arm, guiding him safely past the work area, and helped him to cross the street.

This program was developed to recognize individual and team efforts, and to encourage and empower employees to work to the fullest extent of their capabilities with a sense of P.R.I.D.E. (People First, Respect, Integrity, Deliver, Excel) in the services they provide.
