[ARCHIVED] 05/14/18 Bristol TN Police Department to host active shooter response training at Tennessee High Sch

In response to high demand following the success of similar recent classes, the Bristol Tennessee Police Department will once again host an instructional class regarding active shooter situations.

The focus of the class will be Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training, and is geared towards civilians who could possibly find themselves in such a scenario, giving them the knowledge to take immediate action to save their own lives before law enforcement arrives. Participants will also learn about disaster response as well as how to prepare for and respond to being trapped inside a building during an active shooter event, including steps to take to assist law enforcement and to limit casualties. Individuals, educators, businesses, churches, community groups, or any other types of organizations are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The course was developed by the ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) Center at Texas State University, and is designed around the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy. “We know from research and experience that hiding and playing dead are not always effective tactics for survival in an active shooter situation,” said Sgt. Brian Hess. “The material contained in this class is some of the best information available out there today. Should the unthinkable happen, it will save lives.”

The class will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:00 PM in the Tennessee High School Auditorium. It is open to the public and there is no cost to attend, but participants are asked to RSVP to Sgt. Brian Hess at or 423-989-9382.
