[ARCHIVED] Section of East Cedar Street to reopen

East Cedar barricades web

A section of Bristol, Tennessee’s East Cedar Street will reopen next week and traffic signs will be returned to their pre-construction locations, once again requiring motorists traveling east along King College Road to stop when they reach the East Cedar Street intersection.

The shift in signage will occur Tuesday, Sept. 28, as barricades are removed and traffic is allowed to flow along the newly constructed portion of East Cedar Street from its intersection with King College Road to Valley Drive. The road closure was necessary to install a new box culvert at Cedar Creek, realign a sharp S curve, relocate utilities, install a new storm sewer system, and install curbing and sidewalks along this section of East Cedar Street.

The section of East Cedar Street between Valley Drive and Georgia Avenue will remain closed to through traffic while major work continues there.

Crews also will continue to work in other areas of East Cedar Street as part of the overall $8.98 million project that is designed to significantly improve safety and enhance access to the northeast area of the City. When completed, the entire 1.2 mile stretch of East Cedar Street between King College Road and 5th Street will consist of two 12-foot travel lanes and five-foot sidewalks on both sides of the road. Improvements also are being made at key intersections to enhance safety, improve traffic signals, and provide better sight distance.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. Those traveling along East Cedar Street should expect periodic traffic delays and be aware of construction crews working in the area. Construction is expected to continue through Fall 2022.
