[ARCHIVED] Bristol, Tenn. City Council announces process to fill vacant seat

2-14-22 East District Map

At a called work session on Monday, the members of the Bristol, Tennessee City Council determined the process by which a current vacancy will be filled.

This vacancy comes following the recent resignation of Councilman Chad Keen, who departed City Council following nearly nine years of public service. The city’s charter stipulates that City Council must appoint an individual from the same district to fill this vacancy within 30 days. The appointee will serve until the next regular city election in Nov. 2022.

To be eligible for appointment, candidates must be a resident of Bristol for at least one year, be 21 years of age or older and must reside in the city’s east councilmanic district. The charter also notes that anyone holding any kind of executive, judicial or legislative office of the United States, the State of Tennessee or Sullivan County, or who is an employee of the City of Bristol, Tennessee is ineligible to serve on City Council.

Qualified individuals who wish to be considered for appointment to this seat should contact the current City Council members using the contact information found at bristoltn.org/citycouncil. Following their regularly scheduled work session on Tuesday, Feb. 22, Council will hold a called meeting at 3:00 PM in order to vote on their selection to fill the vacant seat. The appointee will then be sworn in at City Council’s regular business meeting on Tuesday, March 8.
