The Bristol Tennessee Police Department is now accepting applications for its Fall 2023 Citizens’ Police Academy, an 11-session community outreach program designed to provide an informative overview of police operations.
Sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m., beginning on October 3 and continuing through December 12. There will be no class session on October 31, however, and a session has been added on Saturday, November 4, so participants can complete firearms instruction at the BTPD Police Firing Range. All other sessions will be held at the Slater Community Center, 325 McDowell Street.
Police Chief Matt Austin will kick-off the program with an overview of the BTPD the first evening, followed by a program overview by Lt. Greg Brown. Each session will be led by a different member of the department and topics will include witness identification, traffic laws, DUI, SWAT, emergency communications, crime scene investigation, and more. Both classroom instruction and hands-on activities will be included. The cost to participate is $50.
Applications are currently available at www.bristoltn.org/CPA. For additional information, please contact Lt. Greg Brown at gbrown@bristoltn.org or (423) 989-3153.
