Can you Spare a Pair?

That’s the question the City of Bristol, Tennessee is asking community members this winter as the Department of Community Relations spearheads a drive to collect warm socks and other cold-weather items for those in need. Items collected will be delivered to community service agencies for distribution.

The newest effort closely mirrors the Spread the Glove campaign that began in 2015, but the focus has now shifted toward collecting socks because of the overwhelming community need. New, warm socks of all sizes may be dropped in collections bins located throughout the city. Other small items, including hats and gloves, will also be accepted.

“Community organizations, churches, school groups, and individuals have all joined in this effort in recent years, helping us collect nearly 5,000 items to help area residents stay warm throughout the winter months,” said Jaima Helbert of the City’s Department of Community Relations. “If you can spare a pair of warm socks, we’re asking for your support again this year.”

Donation bins are located at:

  • City Hall, 801 Anderson Street
  • Slater Community Center, 325 McDowell Street; and
  • All Bristol, Tennessee fire stations
    • 211 Bluff City Highway
    • 1109 King College Road
    • 500 17th Street
    • 361 Exide Drive
